Starbucks and Puke

We are realizing our little girl gets carsick. She never did as a baby but its been a little more frequent lately. We went to a wedding 3 hours away yesterday and she did complain a little that she was going to puke, but sometimes she just says that. She says "puke" with the cutest accent, it sounds more like "poook". We tell her to drink water and to look out the window and it helps. Well, we made it to our destination and decided we needed some coffee before the wedding. We headed into starbucks and while adam stood in line to order his coffee, rosie and i went to the bathroom. she wanted me to pick her up and so i did and i had not walked 4 feet when suddenly rosie projectile vomits over my shoulder and down my back. adam saw it happen and just stood frozen for a second, so did i, did this really just happen?! the puke landed all over the place and oddly enough, not on her at all. it landed on the display of mugs, each mug now containing a little gift from rosie. it landed all over the floor and in mama's hair. it landed on the book a woman was reading unfortunately close to the accident scene. i put her down, TOTALLY embarrassed. the sound of all the puke landing on the tile floor hushed everyone in starbucks (it was a FULL starbucks). a kindly woman grabbed a napkin and started wiping puke off my (favorite) shirt and adam joined in too. then i started wiping the floor and the display case, not daring to raise my eyes to ANYONE. a starbucks worker came over with a mop and started mopping. adam, rosie and i dash into the bathroom. i think we were still in shock. and then we started laughing, it was unbelievable! we wanted to stay in that bathroom forever, never to see any of those people again. we geared up and dashed out of starbucks and into the car and went to the wedding. i smelled like lotion (my only scented thing to put on)with a hint of puke and gratefully had a sweater in the car to wear over my shirt. we keep thinking about and it just makes me burst out laughing. oh rosie, you have no idea. you just thought to yourself, "oh good, now i feel better, lets have cake."

That is so crazy! I just can't imagine! Don't you love those moments of motherhood that make you buck up when you realize you are the adult in the room?

Amy - I laughed and laughed! This is such a classic parenting event. It's times like these that keep us humble. What a Starbuck's moment. I hope you tell Rosie this story many times as she's growing up - and maybe her boyfriend might like to hear it someday too!
Love and giggles, Mom/Granny
